I've used some freeze 12 in a few customer cars the last couple years so I wouldn't have to buy and R12 (prefer to buy in a 20lb container and no one local offers it that way anymore), it's worked alright, but given a major component failure I'd convert them to R134-a. The freeze 12 is a blend, is uses a hydrocarbon (propane\butane) to carry the oil through the system. In a leak instance the hydrocarbon would be the lightest and most likely to leak out. Once the level of it gets off too much you could have a lubrication problem in theory causing failures. We were always told when a freeze 12 system got low to recover all refrigerant, recycle it, and refill with fresh stuff. Like I said, we've only done a few cars and filled them with a tap and cans.
