  • Car starts in the "on" key position

    1990 mustang 5.0
What would cause a car to start with the car in the "on" position instead of the "start" position?

    Bad solenoid?

I pulled the starter a few times yesterday while pulling the transmission could that have something to do with it? If so what?

does you dash power up before you get to the on position, if so you may have an ignition switch adjustment problem, if you want to give me a call at 903-564-3377 I'll be at work a bit longer, it'll be easier to talk to you then message back and forth.

Deffinetly ignition switch at the bottom of the column.

Another vote for the ignition switch. Make sure to have tamper proof torx bits handy. For some reason, someone decided to use regular torx bits everywhere else on the column, then tamper proof for the two bolts that hold the actual ignition switch in. That's fun.

Ignition switch can do odd things when it goes bad. The tamper proof torx heads can sometimes be removed with needle nose pliers.
