  • Possible ignition issues

I took the 65 out for the first time on the road in about a year the other night. We drove it to a restaurant with absolutely no problems, it ran great. It also ran great this past Sunday at the track.

When we left the restuarant it started fine and we left. Got stuck at a stop light... when i took off from stop light, in 2nd gear, in spitted and sputtered. I just shook it off as vapor lock in the carb.

I got on it to clear it out and it pulled good until about 4500 when it would spit and sputter again ( almost felt as if I was on the rev limiter). So i decided to take it easy and just get it home. About 10 min later it just completely cut out on me. No bucking or anything.. just dead like as if I had turned the key off.

Tried starting it and nothing. Wait about 15 min and it starts great and runs great. Continue to drive home... it does it again about 10 miles later. Same result... wait 15 min and it starts fine. I get home and leave it idling in the driveway as I get out to get the mail. Idles fine, go to take off and it dies again. Wait 15 min and it starts.. you get the picture.

Anytime I would remotely get on it... above 4000 rpm it felt as if I was on a rev limiter and would clear up as soon as i let off the gas. However, i could smell raw gas for a few seconds afterwards.

Everytime the car would die... it would be a flat cut out... no warnings.

The only thing I changed from running it at the track was put exhaust back on and tires. However, I accidently arked the battery to the frame when hooking up a battery charger.

Could this be a weak cool (MSD BLASTER 2 ) or a weak MSD 6AL box that cuts out when it gets hot?

Found a loose wire on the solenoid and fixed it but it did not help the problem. I will chase the ground this weekend.
