  • 500rwhp with stock cam

putting a build together with tfs heads, tfs intake and stock cam with 1.7 rockers

and a b&g turbo kit.. is it possible to get to the 500 mark with the stock cam?

Also, has anyone ever run a larger than stock cam with trick flow heads and a stock short block? Thanks

Yes you can...you can run stock everything (except supporting mods) with the turbo kit, and make over 500,

Why would you want to handicap yourself like that? Put a cam in it!

I want to keep the stock cam and with a stock block I think it would be a waste of money when the stock cam would get me to the hp that i want

dont want to split the thing

your rwhp goal almost guarantees that you will.

I'm sure someone knows exactly how big of a cam cause I don't remember but you can run sevearl aftermarket cams with stock in ternals and be fine. I think you can use an f cam which is considered by some as a good turbo cam

You don't want to split the thing but you want h/c/i and a turbo on a stock block...you can achieve the same numbers with just the turbo kit, even make more than enough to split the block with just the turbo kit( and supporting mods)

I think he did. I was just about to mention him until i saw your post.

edit, he sure did. i just went to his dyno sheet. here is the thread

Edelbrock Performer 1.90 heads Stock Cam with 1.7's 75mm throttlebody 42's and PMAS 3" blowthrough MAF Cobra Intake MSD 6AL-2 Through a built AOD 1st sheet is on 8lbs and my street tune (SCT Switch chip) 2nd sheet is with the exhaust cutout open, track tune and just under 12#'s.

You'd have a tough time making 500rwhp with stock everything except supporting mods. I tried it with the stock heads, but had too many problems trying to keep the stock heads from lifting. I swapped the heads out and that resulted in the dyno graphs you see in the link above. There's no real need to swap the cam out to meet your power goals.

As said above, you can do it with the stock cam. However, the benifit you'd get from the cam swap is improved power across the RPM range most likely.

FWIW, we went 6.80's with a stock cam on 9psi (in Greebullit's car).

If you already have the 1.7s and want to keep them get a b cam.
