  • couple questions about wheel size

So my gen 1 has factory 17x8 5x5.5 4.5 backspace wheels.....I was thinking of going with 18 or 19 front and 19 or 20 rear. would the back spacing need to be the same?

Second question is i really have my eyes stuck on one particular style wheel and they only seem to make them in 5x4.5, 5x4.75, and 5x5.......I work at a machine shop but im a newb and havent really modified wheels to fit........what all is entailed in doing something like this.

again i REALLY dig the look of the wheels and i think it will give the truck a unique look once lowered. I cant even find a pic of a gen 1 with this style wheel so that gives me more of an urge to do it.

You can use adapters for the wheels, but you'll have to account for the amount of backspacing difference with the thickness of the adapters, and the wheel placement inside the fenders.

I've never been a fan of spacers I'd be afraid they would break especially once I mod the truck. And these wheels bolt on gen 2s just fine but never seen a gen 1 with em. There was a guy that said he made gen 2 wheels fit his gen 1 with some opening/ drilling of the bolt hole circle. Maybe it was diabolic. I'll pm him.

Buy quality adapters and don't worry about them. They have come along way.

This. I said adapters, not spacers!

If they will fit a g2 then you can drill them and they'll fit-should be some posts over on NLOC about it

I have a pic of a Red Gen 1 with 20's and 22's with a 4/5 drop, but I can't post the pic because it exceeds my limit.

Scott , I have had 1 1/2" spacers on the back of the green car since 01 and have never had an issue . Just an FYI . They bolt to the factory lug and then have there owne lugs that bolt to the wheel . Very common and safe . BTW , when are you gonna get that thing already ?

Do not use spacers or adapters unless you don't mind knowing the fact that your wheels are not mounted to a factory surface. I'm assuming that since you are saying Gen1 that this is an f-body?
