  • o2 Sensor Seized, Stripped, & Now Broke, Need A Little Help On Getting It Out Please

Well my wife's Rav 4 needs the ecm replaced cause it's causing erratic shifts, but before they can test to see if it is actually the ecm, hopefullyt it is cause a tranny costs a ton, one of the o2 sensors needs replaced. Toyota quoted $442, I said no and bought the sensor at ORielly's & rented the tool. Well since it is an 01' needless to say they've been there awhile.

Well I did everything I could even with the right tools and came to the conclusion that it's pretty much seized in there.
So I ask what my options are, someone said air hammer, great, so I bought an air hammer and didn't budge, just pretty much chewed through it. So now I am lost as to how to get this thing out.

I even have a lug nut remover with reverse threads for stripped lug nuts and tryed it, just filed off some more of what's left off the bolt part of the sensor.

So now I'm stuck and need to get this out before tomarrow.

Any help is very much appreciated.

Have you tried heating it up?
You remember the stories John use to tell us about the the three chinamen playing Fantan? This guy runs up to them and says, "Hey, the world's coming to an end!" and the first one says, "Well, I best go to the mission and pray," and the second one says, "Well, hell, I'm gonna go and buy me a case of Mezcal and six whores," and the third one says "Well, I'm gonna finish the game." I shall finish the game, Doc.

      Heat it.

I would have done this before the hammer.

Good luck they can be a bitch.

Yeah, tryed heating it up. I don't know how hot it would need to be, but the motor was warm and I heated it with a propane torch. It's some soft metal that's for sure.

Yeah i forgot to mention the pb blaster.

If its that bad drop the pipe and get it to a place where you can work on it.

You might end up having to cut it off and drill it out. Its also best to follow the threads with a tap.

Sometimes the tool with the slot is a joke. It will bend, if that happens i usually cut o2 sensor down to where i can get a real socket on there and give it hell with a cheater bar.

Thanks guys, well good news I got it out with my 1/2" Impact gun, took awhile and it's stuck in the socket but it's out. lol
Bad news is it looks like the threads in the manifold are melted or something. Do I need a tap and die set to clean these up?

After reading this I did a search for it and found the o2 sensor thread chaser, it cleaned out the threads and o2 sensor went in easy. Definitely worth every penny of the $10 it cost. lol
                      Thanks a bunch!!
And I appreciate it all the help and input from everyone.
