  • ?'s regarding swapping an engine

Vehicle in question is an '02 Explorer. the engine in it at the moment seized due to a failed oil pump and probably also due to the 187k miles on the clock.

anyway, I'm getting a new long block from AER in the next few months. while I know that there will be some items that will need to be swapped over from the old engine to the new one, what I don't know is if this is going to be drop and go. will there need to be any tuning or is everything just gonna work the way it should?

    TIA

If you install it right, there will be none. why would there be? its the same cam, pistons, intake and all. Why would it require a tune?

I don't know crap about OHC motors so I was just thinking that it would need tuning out of the crate.

the ecm will take care of everything if its an oem engine. if you add a turbo it may need a tune... a turbo exploder would be fun

as stated, the ecm has been programmed for that specific engine. I have installed (and repaired) SEVERAL engines. If all components are working properly, it will need NOTHING assuming everything is hooked up properly upon install. If something isnt working right, you should see codes present.
