  • Is it normal for a A1000 regulator to drop all fuel pressure upon shut down?

Finally got the LS-coupe started for the first time last night. Everything looked good except the fuel pressure on shut down. When the engine is running it stays steady at 54psi, but immediately upon shutting off the engine/fuel pump the pressure falls to zero. Is this normal for aeromotive pumps?

Oh, and here she is starting up, I didn't want to run it too long with no coolant/belt so I just ran it this time and one more time for 15-20 seconds.

yes, you dont have a check valve...

I assume this is not bad for anything. When the pump primes during key on (for 2 or so seconds) it builds a little pressure (20-30psi) but then it seems to gurgle back into the tank via the feed line. This is not bad for the pump to have the fuel going backwards through it?

You don't have your fuel system set up with a return?

Of course there is a return, but the return does not open until the pressure reached 55psi, thus on "key-on" the pump does not run long enough to build the pressure required to begin returning fuel to the tank thus the excess pressure is bled back through the pump into the tank.

            Thanks greenbullitt.

it really does, especially since i have VERY little fuel in the fuel cell right now and the lid was off the cell thus making it very audible.

my old magnafuel did it sometimes too, it seemed the fuel level played a part though (which makes sense to me).. If the tank was pretty full it didnt seem to do it. It seems with a lot of fuel (weight) in the tank its harder to back feed

when I first got my car running I used to thing something was wrong because it did the exact same thing. I later found out that it was ok.

what really sounds scary is when my car sits for a few days and I go to crank it over I can literally hear the fuel rushing and gurgling from the tank to the fuel rails.

x2 I have the same reg. and a Weldon 1100A pump and it does the same thing. No check valve to keep the pressure up.
