  • Honda Gurus inside please....

I have a chance to get a 2001 honda civic (2 door). Great body and low low miles for the year (78xxx). Perfect leather interior, for a great price. Im really wanting it because it gets great miles per gallon and would make a great daily.

The issue.... It leaks coolant like crazy from underneath when driving it. The radiator has been replaced, the hoses and thermostat as well. We cant seem to figure out the problem.

You can rev it all you want and maintain constant RPM's when its in park, and no leaks what so ever regardless of RPM. But when it gets on the road, once you get up to about 40mph the temp starts rising fast. Pop the hood and there is coolant everywhere but appears to come from under neath. Any ideas on what else to look for or replace? The fans do kick on as well, so I know thats not the issue.

    Thanks in advance.

Find someone with a pressure attachment. Put pressure to the system and find the leak.

It could be all sortsa shit.

Im thinking this as well, But it would suck to tear into it and that not be it.

Test it correctly and find your leak.

Regardless if the water pump isn't the issue replace it along with the timing belt. If one of those go the head and possibly a piston will be fucked. And it's about that time as far as mileage

I just did a stripped timing belt on an interference motor last week (forget car type ATM). I was damn near 100% sure the motor would be fucked, both cams were turned 180 from the crank. The customer opted for us to try putting a belt on, and the mofo cranked up and ran perfect. Told him he ought to buy a lottery ticket.
Only a fool would not put a new belt on with a pump change.

Yep, or some ole cheapskate refuse to replace the w/p with a new belt.....and have it(w/p) take a shit 2 weeks later. THEN come back wanting us to fix it for the 30 minute difference in labor, Ah... wrong song ding dong.

LOL... No worries here. I would rather pay to get it right the first time. Im familiar with replacing those at the same time from what I understand. PM responded to.

Another for the water pump and it's a son of a bitch to get to and replace. I broke the fucking harmonic balancer in half trying to get the bolt loose on a 99.
