Perhaps the answer is just getting more jobs and scheduling/routing them properly to where you aren't doing as much driving and more working.

Did not read a single post, but the only one close will be the 90s model Nissans as far as I know. Even they won't get 35 hwy though. I owned two of them in my teens and early twenties. Great little trucks, but you won't see that kind of mileage - especially pulling gear.

Anyway, *I* would aim for the 86 1/2 (I think to) whatever year it was that style ran to before the frontier was released. Parts should be easy to come-by as well.

I'll admit though, you'll have space issues and pulling a trailer is going to be a bitch with one of those considering how old/worn out it'll probably be - regardless of how well it was maintained.

I wish! My 01 never gets more than 17.

                A 2005 4 cylinder Colorado is rated at 18/24, Rangers are 21/27, Dakota 15/20, Tacoma 18/25 and Frontier 19/23.

You might want to look at mini vans. Some of the 4 cylinder ones will get close to what you need and can tow small trailers.

gets my vote, mine has gotten a best of 22mpg, pulled a loaded 96 camaro home and took a load of 1900lbs to the scrap yard in the bed not at the same time. It does have a 2.3t ford motor tho so it would prob get better mileage if I didn't drive the piss out of it.

Don't be short-sighted. 2.3L Ranger is where it's at. It's the only truck that offers close to what you're asking. My dad used to drive to Houston from Austin every day, loaded down with tools and still got ~23 mpg. 26-28 mpg unloaded.

I think a Ranger is the way to go.. Quit being narrow minded. Though you might have trouble finding a decent one for $2500.

ive got a ranger it meets all of your criteria and i love it, its cheap on some areas of fit and finish but it makes up for it in durability. i run mine hard and when i say hard i mean hard and havent had problems yet, my brother has an older one with 180k+ miles and has had a clutch put in it which has been the biggest repair to date.

plus they both get 26+mpg all the time
