  • 1995 GT 5.0 hesitation / bogging on load

    Hello,

I've been searching the internets for a while and reading my chilton's manual trying to diagnose the issue with my 1995 5.0.

Thought I would ask the collective brain power on here, and maybe get recommendations on a shop to handle this for me. (I'm in Rowlett, close to Garland)

Car ran fine till i stopped driving it mid last year. Sat for about a month, then got moved over to my house. I went to start it one day to go get it inspected and it cranked up but was bucking like it was misfiring. The exhaust note seems to compliment this, mostly on the left tail pipe. Now will not start.

What I have done: Cleaned MAF, IAC, Throttle body. Changed plugs - (old ones were black) #7 cylinder wire was torn up, replaced only it with old wire.
Changed fuel filter, and put a new Wahlbro 255 in it.
    New MSD Coil
    Changed TPI module
    Verified cats were not clogged
    New MSD Distributer

    What it was doing:
Car cranks fine when cold. Does not crank when hot.
Some fluid (maybe unburned gas?) is coming out of the tail pipes. Before I changed the broken #7 wire, lots of fluid coming out of where the catback bolts to the midpipe.
When first hitting the throttle, car will hesitate, then rev.
Upon load (driving on and off car ramps, up and down my sloped driveway) The car will lose power, bog, and die. Idles fine. Rev's fine.

    Now won't start - I pulled the codes - 118, 118 (hard Faults) 6sec pause 1 6sec pause 111, 111

    My next steps:
    Check for blown headgasket?

    Thanks in advance.

Unbolt that H-Pipe and take it for a spin. Have you checked the fuel pressure?

Have you tried replacing the coil?

Its got stock exhaust manifolds down to weld in cats (stock) so there's nothing I can really unbolt. I do have some MAC longtubes/off-road H waiting to go on it, but I dont want to put those on till I get it inspected first.

Dangerous - Thanks for the note. I will hit you guys up if I go that route.

Cannon - No I haven't. I put a new coil in about 2 years ago. It was a stock equivalent Autozone part. I was thinking about putting one of those MSD fire or whatever on it.

The same thing happened to my old 94. I changed the coil and that fixed the problem.

            Good luck.

Ok I just ordered a new MSD coil and fresh set of wires. Should be here Wed or Thurs so hopefully that will help.

I really hope it is not a head gasket. BUT I do have some gt40p's ready to bolt on.

I thought about this, is there a good way to tell besides water in the oil?

The oil looks good on the dip stick, but I understand this is just a small sample.

Either pressure test coolant system or do a block test for combustion gasses

I have not. Does the CE light need to be on for it to throw a code? The CE light comes on when I first crank ( along with the others that are supposed to light up) so the bulb isn't burnt out. However at no point does it come on during the engine running. Even when the wire for cylinder 7 was about split in half.
