  • Driveshaft length?

Hi...I'm new here. I was hoping to get a little info from you guys. I blew up my T-5 in my 89 Coupe. It's a supercharged H/C/I car... makes 470RWHP.

I bought a TKO500 transmission, SPEC stage 3 Plus Clutch, Spec Aluminum Flywheel, and a McCleod 8660 Scattershield Bellhousing. That leaves me just the driveshaft that needs to be changed from 28 spline yoke to a 31 spline yoke. I thought while I was at it, I might as well get myself an aluminum driveshaft. Been looking at the Ford Racing ones. From what I can gather the M-4602-G which is made for my car with 28 splines and the M-4603-J which is for a 96-2000 Car with 31 splines are the exact same part with exception to the yoke. But I haven't been able to confirm or deny that yet...anyone?

I've been told and/or read that a stock length driveshaft will work with a TKO provided that you change the yoke to 31 splines. Also, will my McCleod scattershield bellhousing change the distance between the transmission output and the differential. i.e. will it change the length of the driveshaft I need?

I guess I'm just trying to figure out if I can make this work with Ford Racing stock driveshaft lengths or if I'm going to have to get a custom one. Anybody know if I'll need those driveshaft spacers etc.

Any info you know on this topic will be appreciated.

    Thanks!

But if M-4602-G and M-4602-J are both 45.5" in length, why not just order the M-4602-J since it already has the 31 spline yoke on it, rather than spend $270 on the M-4602-G and another $75 on the yoke?

      Am I missing something here?

Got ahold of ford racing... M-4602-G and and M-4602-J ARE in fact the same part with exception to the yoke... The G has 28 splines and the J has 31... Other than that they are identical.

Thought somebody might be able to use that info. Saved me $75 bucks and the time it takes to swap a yoke on the wrong driveshaft
