Dumb Question time...

On my Stang I just got, def has a tune. After two months, the check engine engine light came on. Says PCM (Powertrain Control Module) has a fault. The tech was afraid too clear the code as it may erase the tune. He said disconnect the battery for 20 mins and then see.

So the question is, its it easy to erase a tune or do you have to deliberately go in with a tuner and swap or erase it? I do not have a handheld tuner, but do have this weird block that plugs into the obd port under the dash that was in the glove box when I got the car.

Post a pic of the block, could be one that goes to your phone? On my old GT the handheld tuner would copy the stock tune to it and replace with the aftermarket tune... Not sure how yours will handle it if you don't have the tuner.

So yeah, your stock tune hopefully is stored on that, download the app and see what's on it.

Im not an expert, but it looks like the shop that tuned it or owner has the original hand held tuner and that thing is just a transmitter that hooks to your OBD port and sends the info to a I-thingy.
From my understanding you should be able to clear that code and be ok. The only way to unload a tune is to have the handheld device that was used to mate and un-mate if that makes sense. Not to say that a shop with SCT software can't go in and unload or make changes. You will need the hand held SCT tuner tho. I think that think just sends logging info to a Ipad and maybe alow you to make changes, but not sure about if you can unload a tune with it.

I thought so, but I don't think it can remove the tune, it might like I said, tho it looks like just a transmitter of some sort that can clear codes and give real time data logging.

I have an SCT tune/tuner for my '20 5.0. HPP dyno tuned it and it is paired/married to my car. If I want to make small changes I can, but if I want to add a different CAI, injectors, I need the handheld and it you want the most power, a dyno tune is needed to make the most power and be safe.
On my '12 5.0 it had an older SCT that only allowed 5 tunes, so not sure what year his is, so after this post I need stop cause like I said i'm not an expert.

Mines a 12 too. I wish mine came with the handheld, as when I had my Shelby, learned they were married to the car.

Luckily we've come to the age in our careers where we can afford to be nowadays, back in the day, I learned to work on my car because I couldn't afford to pay someone.

Clearing codes shouldn't have any impact on the tuning side of things. I've cleared trouble codes on dozens of tuned vehicles over the years of being an auto mechanic
