We just tuned a Miata with a 5.3, it made 350rwhp. I have no idea what all was done, but to me.....if your going to do it, I would get a 6.0. The potential to make more power is there.

BP can get you hooked up with whatever you need.

Why go carburated, OP? You seem to be on a budget, so why buy parts you don't need when the factory gear works fine?
ZOMBIE REAGAN FOR PRESIDENT 2016!!! heh

It seems to be more costly to find all the equipment needed to run the efi and tune it correctly than to use a carb. I am also biased in favor of carburetors.
I would actually be all for using the factory setup if it were cheap enough, though.

          I tend to agree.

Nice. How much for a complete 6.0?

So Im adding up prices on 6.0 engines and it looks like you can buy a lq4/lq9, carburate it, add ignition, streetable cam and LT's for under $3000. You come out with over 400fwhp, so roughly, 7-8 buck per hp.
Seems like the hp per dollar winner so far.

Where are you finding the lq4/lq9 and what are they going for?

Can you show the list of stuff you have to get you to 3000? I'm interested to see what all you're thinking about.

I'll get it together and put the list I have been looking at after I get home, the 5.3 comes out pretty good when you use the factory longblock too.

This only includes the basics, since all the other items I would undoubtly need would likely be purchased with any build/swap. I haven't included valvesprings or other possibly necessary items yet.

                        $500 - used 5.3 engine
                        $670 - intake & ignition (summit)
                        $400 - Cam (summit)
                        $200 - headers (summit)
Roughly under $2000 for possibly 350hp? Under $6 per hp on the high side.

                        $1100 - used 6.0 engine (lkq)
The rest is similar or slightly more.
Roughly under $2500 for possibly 400+hp? Under $7 per hp on the high side, with more potential.

The intake & ignition is carb stuff?

                              Yes, specifically:

                              Here is summit's selection:

why carb it? it would be cheaper to run the FI.

                                IMO
dollar for dollar the 5.3 is hard to beat, potential wise the 5.7/6.0 is hard to beat. I prefer an aluminum because a 5.3/6.0 is about 90 pounds heavier. Your right on for a 6.0 as for power, heres some others
a 5.3 in stock form should make near 250 at the wheels, a 6.0 300
                                a cammed 5.3 made 340
                                cammed 6.0 near 400
                                (both with supporting mods)
a cam will need springs at minimum, pushrods and t/c are a must if i do them.
If i can be any help feel free to pm me
