  • New Edge Hood Hinge Hardware replacement

I'm taking a stab at it, and saying you have to pull the driver's side fender to replace this missing bolt, washer and nut, right?

If there is an alternative suggestion, im all ears.

Put masking tape around every painted edge before you start, and have an extra set of hands in case you need help.

You can’t get to it with an impact wiggle and extensions?

You will have to remove the hood strut(s) and that hood will open all the way back to the windshield, that will give you the room to install/remove the rear bolt on that hinge. IF it still in the way, you can take off all the fender bolts (underhood bolts) and one fender bolt by the upper door hinge and it will move outward enough and give you the room, so no need to remove it completely.

So here is another look at it from above, note the small square hole :

If you pull the cowl pieces , and look inside the cowl, you will see the entire cowl under that hinge is complete sheetmetal with no access hatches or holes.

I cant see how it is even possible to get underneath that sheetmetal to the underside of that. I might try to thread a flat washer and nut down through that hole to thread into, but thats gonna be a bitch.

You know, i might try a cage-nut or Self-Clinching Blind Press Nuts into that little fucker. that would be easy.

So, decided to remove the other hinge bolt, fearing that whatever it was fastened to would deteriorate but it didnt and saw the other mount.

What is this square nut called , can i install it by pressing it in, and where can i get one?

It's pressed or welded in during the body building process I'm pretty certain.

I believe that is a factory cage nut, but a clip on nut will work as well. I thought that what was in it from the factory was a clip on nut.

Just as an update, its a crimped on piece that is crimped onto the sheetmetal.

Now i have to work up an alternative that doesnt fuck up the sitting height of the hood.
