  • GM Transmission techs inside

What all is involved in replacing the tailshaft seal on a 2001 Tahoe automatic transmission. Very slow leak; but something I want to address sooner than later. Is it a DIY'er or does a transmission shop/tech need to do it?

Takes longer to put it on the lift. Super easy.

Sounds like I have an excuse to get a new tool

I planned on dropping the drive shaft and doing it in the driveway. I crawled under their to tighten a bolt on the running boards. I can crawl under there to swap out the seal. How much trani fluid can I expect to lose and need to refill on average?

IMO, prolly not even a quart. If you jack up the rear only (and on a level surface) you can do it without losing any

The seal is real easy, now the bushing is a little more complicated. It could be why the seal is leaking.
