  • Any tips/tricks for reinforcing upper and lower control arm brackets and sub-frames?

Going to tow the stang out to my FIL's shop on Saturday night. Planning to weld up the upper control arm mount, install my lower control arm reinforcements, and install my full length Maximum Motorsports sub-frame connectors.

Reaching out to you guys for any tips/tricks.

I know the car needs to be on it's wheels while welding up the subframe connectors.

From what I understand reinforcing the upper control arms is really just a matter of welding ever possible location where the upper mount connects to the chassis.

And for the lower control arm reinforcement it looks like you bolt in the lower half, install the bolts through the plates, then weld the upper plate to the floor of the car?

Any tips on how to get the area near the upper mounts clean, my under carriage is coated with some type of paint stuff (its all black). Not sure exactly how I'll be able to get it all clean with a grinder.

Thanks in advance DFWmustangs, I really appreciate any input here.

    Thanks!

Yes, the suspension should be loaded when welding the subframes. At least that's what they did on mine. And I have GHP weld up my torque boxes and all that jazz when I had my converter installed. I used Hotchkis control arms. And had everything done except the axle tubes. As I wouldn't do that without using a jig. You will have to grind down any area down to bare metal before you weld. Then paint over the welds to prevent rusting. And don't set the interior of your car on fire why you're doing it. I hope you stripped it down if you're going to do floor plates. Take your time.
