  • boost or no boost

I have a 331 stroker that I am building in a 71' block with flat top srp pistons and 58cc gt40x heads. Is it safe to run 10 to 12lbs of boost on this? I would like to run a T70 on a blow thru setup.

That setup should yield 9.86:1 according to the chart I looked at. What kind of fuel are you planning on running in it? Is it a street car or race car?

It would run fine, and be pretty peppy for what it is - but your timing would have to be considerably lax because of the iron heads and elevated compression. Especially considering the fuel that's readily available.

Of course, there's fuel additive options and E85.

I'm pretty sure all the x's are aluminum.

I thought compression would be an issue. I don't want to be replacing head gaskets all the time. I guess I could order some dished pistons.

Use a cometic head gasket and you will not have a problem...

The main thing is you need to avoid detonation. There are other factors that come into play but basically you have to find the right compromise between compression, boost, octane, and timing for your setup. Camshaft selection, strength of the engine components, and whether you have iron or aluminum heads are some of the other considerations.
There's always somebody out there that has done what you are trying to do so if you can find someone that is running a similar setup you can pick their brain to get details.

i dont know much about boosted setups, but they are throwing 6-10lbs of boost on the new 5.0 and those things have 11:1 compression
