  • Brakes on a 09 Suburban

Long story short, the braking power sucks dick on my suburban. I would like to change that but don't know whats good or what all to get. Never have done brakes before. Anyone have any suggestions on what to get/do?

check components for wear and replace as needed

change and properly bleed the fluid

There is no reason the factory stuff should not do everything you need on a truck like that.

I would recomemded going with all new rotors with premium pads. Flush the entire system with new fluid and call it a day. Do not bother with drilled or slotted rotors. I have had good results with the Centric premium line of pads and rotors.

What seems to be the problem? Hard pedal or it stops about 400 foot to long
            like stock Fox brakes?

Stops about 400 ft too long, lol. We're going to keep this some bitch till it falls apart so I figured I'd throw some money into it.

Stupid question but have you checked the fluid level?

I can only relate my 92 Fox story. The stock brakes sucked at best.
I did the 10 to 13 inch trick and 12 inch rear (rear discs look cool).
More surface better friction material etc. WAY SHORTER stops!

What I like now is that "every one" has a big brake kit new for what
I scrounged used! Plus, it really does bolt on. It makes no difference
                    the make or model too.

The only limiting factor is one's credit card...

                    Merry Christmas

Replace the master cylinder and use some speed bleed bleader screws when you do the rest of the work.

I was running from a state trooper who was in a 5.0 LX and to get away all that I did was make a hand full of hard stops from about 130 mph to 50mph within 3 or 4 minutes of each other and started making turns after that. He went into the grass when I made the first turn and gave up after that. Stock brakes SUCKED on a 5.0 Fox.

FYI; running from the police was a misdemeanor back then and was considered fun by both of the involved parties.

Brakes were meh on my 05 Suburban too.

Others covered it, obviously, but one addition is if you have just plan rubber lined at the wheels, swapping them for braided steel lines can help too.
