  • Shorten driveshaft

A local shop to me does driveshaft shortenings, then they offer an extra cost to balance the driveshaft. My question is why would I NOT have it balanced?

Well if you want something you can't sit in to drive.
If you study harmonics and really like crazy vibes.
      Then do not balance it.

I think his point is, why not just include the cost of balancing in with the cost of shortening, since it clearly will need to be done.

Exactly, and it's not like it's very much money. I think he said an extra $30 to balance it. Sure might as well but who wouldn't get it balanced lol?

I had my driveshaft shortened after I put a 5 speed in the bronco (68) and to the question of balancing, the shop said some need it and some don't (after changing length). Going down the highway at 70 & normal rpms is nice, and I don't have any vibration.

Granted, 70 in a lifted early Bronco is as fast as I will ever go, but if you're building something fast, I'd think the balancing is a no brainer.

$30 to balance?? I'm getting hosed. I swear the shop I used quoted over $100.

Hey Z06, if you don't mind me asking, what did it cost you to have it shortened?
