  • SBF timing cover fiasco

Does anybody actually know the truth? I've read and read a ton of stuff and I've came to the conclusion that no one knows what they are talking about?

The question is this, fox body mustangs run a serpentine belt system which means reverse rotation water pump as well when looking at the motor from the front.

This is the timing cover everybody sells for the fox body with a reverse rotation water pump

Notice the angle of the water ports.

This is a timing cover for a 65 mustang, standard rotation water pump.

The ports are angled the same way.

This is a timing cover for a 96 F150 with reverse rotation water pump.

Again, notice the ports. They are angled the opposite direction from the previous two.

Now if you imagine a water pump spinning counter clockwise aka reverse rotation, then the only one that makes sense is the F150 cover? It's blatantly obvious that the first two would flow much worse than the one that looks correct to me. WTF is going on here? Other people have pointed this out and no one could answer the question. The standard fox body cover looks completely wrong to me for reverse rotation setups. Opinions?

I have the F150 cover on my galaxie engine and have used a standard rotation pump and reverse rotation pump. Didn't make any difference. The pump backing plate has a round hole and doesn't care what angle the cover has

I ordered this pump, it has the angled ports in the pump to match the timing cover

The 65 timing cover and the fox timing can run either standard or reverse rotation pumps, doesn't matter. If you use the f150 cover you need to use the matching pump, to my knowledge you can't get a standard rotation pump using this cover.
