  • Looking for aluminum head torque specs

Ok guys, seem like the more I Google this the more confused I get.

I'm working with some Edelbrock Performers on a 306 block. I'm using ARP studs, kit #154-4001. The instructions in the box state the final torque is 80ftlbs. My question is what are the first two steps? Also, is anyone using a different final torque, and why?

I normally run them all down by hand and go 50/70/80 then run thru a heat cycle and retorque.

I step 5 times to 100 with a 105 final in the valve cover area.

If you are not meticulous with the lubrication and have a good TQ wrench........ don't even try this.

Not the head you have to worry about but pulling the threads in the stock block. I hover in the 90-95 range for final pass with studs
