  • Could use some help changing out some valve springs

Doing a cam swap on my 2007 suburban, and I need some help changing out the valve springs.

Heads are off, new springs are here. Cant find a spring compressor that's worth a s@#$.

I'm in Saginiaw, so if you know someone in Ft. Worth that can help out, let me know.

    Thanks!

      Getting them off:
Have you "poped" the top of the retainers with a socket to break then loose from the keepers and valve.

Place a larger than the keepers in diameter socket and hit it hard with a dead blow hammer.

      Get them on:
PM if you need to borrow a valve spring compressor, or bring the heads over.

I've always used a large brass drift to pop the retainers free of the keepers. 5lbs of brass delivers a heck of a thump but won't scratch bend or damage a retainer.

Saw it somewhere and saved the pic. I've never tried it but it should work.
