  • Accord dies at stops

I'm asking around at the honda sites, but I figured screw it I'll ask here too. I have a 2001 Honda accord, 4 door automatic with the 2.3L 4cyl. I guess you'd say its high mileage, at 222k miles. Then again, maybe not really for a honda car.

Anyway, I am having some trouble with the engine dying when I come to a stop sometimes. Driving it around after having fixed a few things, I noticed that sometimes when I come to a stop sign or stop light, the engine will stall. And when I go to restart it, its a harder start than when I first started the car up for the day. Not sure if that is related. Years ago I'd heard that this is something of a known issue with certain hondas, but its been so long I can't remember what cars or what the fix ended up being. It doesn't appear to be a vacuum leak, but i haven't dug into that hard yet.

Not sure if this part is related either but, it doesn't seem to do it until the engine has been running awhile. It won't do it when its cold, or if I've only driven 3-4 miles. It has to have been going for a bit, before it will die when I come to a stop. But not every single time. Bought the car on the cheap for resale, but I won't sell till this is fixed.

    Thanks in advance

Try and wiggle the key while its running to see if it dies, they had a bad ignition switches.

If you haven't already, clean the throttle body.

Thanks I'll give that stuff a try this weekend when I work on it again. Also should have mentioned that it needed a head so I put a used cylinder head on it, and a new distributor as well. Some other unrelated stuff like a water pump and timing belt and various seals as well.

Also heard the "main relay" is a common problem. Not real sure if it looks any different from the rest of the relays
