  • Toyotas 3.5 DOHC engine

Specifically the one in 2010 2011 RX-350's. Wife is wanting a small suv and we are looking at used ones. Anybody have experience with these? Are they good engines? I know they are VVT which of course is more crap to break.

Bulletproof corporate Toyota engine. No flaws that I've heard. Regular maintenance and it should run almost forever.

I think that was more in the 3.0 and 3.3L versions. I haven't heard of that issue with the 3.5 variants. Either way, change your oil every 10,000 miles or so and that will never be an issue anyway.

And use the correct oil. The sludge happens when people go to the cheapest possible place for service and they use bulk non synthetic oil, then stretch it out to 10k intervals or even longer.

The earlier ones had valve and timing system related recalls that need to be done. Once you get into years you are looking at I believe they were resolved.

You may already know this but sign up for a my lexus/drivers account. You can enter any Lexus VIN and see the complete dealer service history.
