  • 2011 Edge pop when turning

    2011 Edge SEL 72000 miles

We have started getting a popping noise when we turn the steering wheel left and right. It is most noticeable at slow speeds.

I spent some time last night in the driveway trying to pinpoint the pop. The noise seems louder from inside the car than the outside. I was under the nose, in the engine bay, and it was hard to hear, making it harder to locate.

I can't see anything binding, or apparent damage to anything.

    Thoughts?

Check the wheel liners, what size tire? Not a pop but the lifters will rattle in a slow left hand turn if the oil is low.

Also, the struts don't last long in these. The passenger front is normally the first to go.

Strut was my first thought. I'll check the wheel liners.

As for tire size, I'm not sure. I would assume stock, whatever that is. She has only put 12k miles on it since we bought it 18 months ago, and the tires were damn near new.

I'm going to guess one of two things:

        upper strut mounts

        front sway bar end links
When the government pays, the government controls.

Will take away bar links for $200 Alex. My 155k Silverado does the same thing they need replaced

Thanks for the recommendations everyone. I'll be putting it up on ramps this weekend to check the current state of things.

Maybe a cvc joint bad, check the boots look for grease slinging out of the boot.

Are you still riding on the original shocks/struts? I installed the Moog links and mount bushings a couple of months ago at 165K. That with Bilstein shocks made a world of difference.

This was the firstvthing i checked when I did my quick inspect. No signs of damaged outer boots. I didn't crawl far enough under it to check the inners.

As far as I know, all stock. We bought it about a year and a half ago with 57k miles on it. It now has 72k on it. Wife only drives 1 mile each way to work. The only real miles it sees is when we run around on the weekend.

It really bothers me when vehicles have these kinds of issues at this kond of milage! Both of my s-10's didn't develop these kinds of issues until 150k+ miles. Hell, on my last truck, I did the brakes for the first time at 150-160k miles!

Yeah it's all stock. They aren't blown out just yet so I'm gonna keep rolling. I'm sure a new set of shocks would really help with ride quality. It's been a fairly good vehicle and very reliable
