Smog holes inside of exhaust port.. ??

My heads have a hole in each of the exhaust port ceilings, which leads to a chamber that runs under the valve cover bolts and to the air pump holes on the front and back of the head. I have thread in plugs for the ends, but what I've expeireanced in the past was the exhaust pressure eventually causes my valve cover bolts to work loose/blow out causing a leak and also putting exhaust gas under the valve cover in the process.

I'd like to fill these to prevent that from ever happening again.

Here's a pic of my header flange fitment :/ bbk at its finest.. But you can see the hole I mention.

You shouldn't be getting any exhaust in your valve covers unless your heads are cracked.
You sure it's not excessive blowby?

However, if you want to seal them off, go ahead. Metal epoxy might work, but I would suggest a little welding.

Lol! No guys. The motor is apart now but when it was running I had an instance where a valve cover bolt was blown out and luckily caught in the sheet metal / bolt trap area behind the strut tower. Caused a noisy exhaust leak and the problem was fixed within hours with a helicoil, but it was a little smokey when I took the valve cover off.

No blow by, here's the best I can do to explain this.

I can't fathom why a valve cover bolt hole would intersect with an exhaust passage intentionally.
Sounds like quality control missed a defect.
We're they NIB when you got them or used?

Used, both heads are like this, doesn't look like a defect. I haven't really looked into much, in the past I've had troubles finding much feedback online.

They were casted on 3/24/2000. So no telling what could have happened in 16 years.

Plug that shit up while you can. Shouldn't be too hard to accomplish.

1/4-20 set screw Loctite, bury in the hole and stud valve covers...if its deep enough. i personally would Loctite studs in and do nothing else.

I have studs already to replace the bolts. I just didn't want them to wiggle loose over time.

I have helicoils for them as well.
