  • Ford Tech help needed

    To make a long drawn out story short...

    If possible could a Ford Tech provide me with the manual listed "labor hours" required to do a 6 speed transmission install on a 2015 GT; if possible the rebuild hours as well... The Ford Deaer I dropped my car off at has had it for 3 months now. The parts needed for the rebuild were "nationally back ordered" until last Wednesday when they received them.

    Overall I'm asking an experts opinion on whether or not 7 full business days are reasonably enough time to have rebuilt and reinstalled the transmission...

    Any input would be greatly appreciated

    I can tell you the book times should be no where near 7 days. Remove an install at best 3-4 hrs, Rebuild on the newer ones im not sure. Now if the trans guy is swamped Id have not problem waiting to have him get to it. Otherwise you'd end up with who knows what.

      All Depends on techs work load. If parts arrive Wednesday it can be easily done by Friday. Book time (SLTS) is about 12.0 give or take on 6r80. Being on national back order for 3 months..... That can be grounds for new Trans unit install for some places.

        Thanks;

        The wait time for parts was from Dec. 18- Feb. 25th A.M; they said they were starting the rebuild on the 26th; My car has officially been in there the longest and other than a f550 the only transmission job in there and it's handled by a different tech;

        I was overall wanting to know if this long or a wait was a bit extreme...

        I'm just hoping all went well Friday and it will indeed be completed and ready for pick up tomorrow...

          Here we go again; finally got the car back yesterday and.... Transmission is screwed again!!!

          When you slowly accelerate you hear a "rolling metal clank" that sounds like a marble rolling around... If you accelerate at any rapid rate it sounds like the entire transmission is going to rattle and come apart... This crap is getting old. I'm taking the car back to the dealer today to talk with the owner. I guess we shall see what comes of it

            That sucks. Are you on another mustang forum? I swear there's a similar story to yours.

              I am not; although it wouldn't surprise me considering there were 3 of the parts required for my rebuild on national back order...

              When I dropped the car off this afternoon the service writer and tech test drove the car. They returned and said they couldn't "hear anything abnormal" during the drive; I requested they do a test drive with me and left with the tech... Magically 4 of the 5 times we stopped and started the noise was present. It appears that the throw out bearing is shot

                  I very much considered it and wish I would have; however at the time I was struggling to find an auto in the red that I wanted... I also didn't want it loaded which caused more availability issues

                    I hear you. I could only find two auto, guard, base, GT's in DFW when I bought mine.
