  • Adding AC to an 86

I found an 86 notch t-top I kinda like but the car was optioned without AC. I'm old and fat and needs me some AC!

How expensive is it to refit it with an AC setup? I wouldn't mind doing a 87-93 dash in the process, though that's not mandatory, but it maybe easier than trying to track down an 86 specific AC setup?

It was originally a 4 cylinder car and now has a v8 swap and 5 lug conversion. Its really not close enough to stock to matter anymore.

How much interior work are YOU willing to do? It is not hard
      just time consuming.

I dunno, what's a ball park on having an 87-93 dash installed with AC? If Its a lot I could do the install myself. Just looking for an idea on the cost of getting an AC in it before I decide to buy it.

Heater works from what I understand. I don't know about dash light colors. Why?

The last time I saw an A/C kit it was about $800 for everything. You do not have to get new, the junkyards are full of Foxes.

Where did you see a complete kit?

At least you're not taking the ac off like so many others.

I'm not seeing a complete AC conversion from them. They have a full under hood kit (hoses, compressor, etc), but that's it.

                            Its Texas, gotta have AC.

So has no one ever converted a non-AC car to AC? Seems hard to believe. I've found a lot of the individual parts for cheap, but I'm sure there a lot of little parts I'm missing plus the cost of install.

Also, is R134 worth a crap in these systems or is it worth the cost to stay R12?

Nostalgic A/C has a kit that might work. You buy the base kit and then add an evaporator that works for your car.
