  • 7.3 guys

I'm almost at 200k and I am trying to do some preventative maint, what is the deal on the hpop lines, should I replace them or just the orings on the connectors?
I always hear the 7.3 will go 500k with just basic oil filter/oil/fuel filter, what else do I need to worry about on it? The compressor wheel was a little beat up because the boot in front of the turbo was torn, I replaced that, and put the AIS intake/filter on it. I also need to replace the up pipes because they are leaking.

Compressor wheel looked something like this.

Shouldn't have any problems with the lines themselves. I've never seen one fail unless it had some serious rubbing issues. The O-rings yes. I just replaced mine not to long ago. Found some CAT O-rings at work that work well with oil and threw them in.

If the hpop lines are leaking I would replace the lines all together. If their not leaking then dont touch them. As soon as you mess withem them they leak. Pull the connector off of the icp sensor and check to see if theres oil inside the connection. If so replace the sensor. Make sure you use Motorcraft filters and not wix/fram/etc... There is a big difference in them. Especially the fuel filter. Motorcraft puts a membrane on the outside that keeps water out. No one else puts it on the filter. The other filters are dimensionally different. Every powerstroke I touch I use motorcraft filters for everything.

Just finished doing the compressor wheel on my work truck and a couple of other things (fuel housing and lift pump). The truck was parked for almost 2 years, drained the tanks, she started right up after a couple of turns. They are great motors.

I want to try Archoil, I heard it's good stuff.

When you do your up-pipe, the brass donuts are a really good idea. When I did them on my last one I also discovered that both manifolds were leaking at the heads on the back corners, which is pretty common too - I added some copper gaskets there as well. You'll probably want to do some new o'rings on the turbo pedestal too. Just be careful when you are pulling all of that apart, the bolts in the pedestal pretty commonly end up breaking and they are hell to get out.

What year 7.3 do you have?
