You said you have a stick welder, but this comment indicates it is wire feed

If it is flux-core wire feed it should work for filling holes in sheet metal. Just grab a copper backing plate/hear sink and make small plugs or use round bar to weld into the holes. It wont be pretty but that is what abrasives and filler are for.
So you think I'll be good with the crappy set up I have? I just hope the welds hold...
This is what I have. http://m.harborfreight.com/90-amp-ac-120-volt-flux-cored-welder-61849.html[/URL]

I read the initial post wrong. I thought you were just trying to fill holes in the stock aprons and core support. If you are doing new panels the flux core is likely not going to do.

My core support was bent on my 86 hatch and I wanted to replace it. I also wanted smooth and paint the engine bay because I'm also sanding and stripping the car down the prepare it for paint. I cut out my core support and drilled out the spot welds and removed my fender aprons since I ended buying holeless fender aprons from Latemodelrestoration.com. If I'm going to do all this, I might as well do it right. I ended up buying a 90-93 core support because it's less of a pain to deal with versus the 2 piece earlier years. The aprons and core support are off and ready to be welded in. I'm also thinking I want to add a strip of medal plate to the frame rails to cover them. Long story short I just need someone to spot weld my new fender aprons in and then weld my core support on.

At this rate you may be better off paying for a flatbed tow to a welder.
