  • 05 Mustang GT: No start

Ran great last night. Went to leave for work and no-go. Tried to crank for a while, then went to the click. I popped the battery out and charged it hoping that was the issue. It charged pretty quickly and read full voltage on the meter.

Still no start, and now it's mostly just clicking. Also, after reinstalling the battery, I got an "engine fail safe mode" on the display.

It just left on a tow truck because this shit is over my head, but I'm trying to educate myself on what the issue could be. So far all I can come up with is maybe a TPS? What do y'all think?

They do get dirty (TPS) but yours doesn't seem to have that many miles. I never understood why they put it down there where is can get contaminated. I'm assuming you checked all the air intake hoses, MAF plug?

edit; Also these cars need juice and the factory batteries only last two or three years. My '05, '09 and '12 BATs only lasted two years, warranty covered all three cars. They do funny things with the electrical when they go bad, if it sez Motorcraft on that bitch, it is way overdue for a new one.

you may have found the reason why it was traded in.

Hah, could be. It has a cheezy autozone battery in it now. It may be iffy, but it was reading a full charge this morning.

Everything looks clean as far as intake goes. Throttle body, plugs, etc.

                  Yes.

And with a blower (extra pulleys) it could have cooked it sooner than later. I'm still sticking with the battery, the location at the rear is where they get heat soaked pretty bad and we all know that heat and sitting for extended periods of time kills batteries. I'd put a Sears Gold or Platinum and be done with it, they have great warranties.

Codes cleared and it started. Codes indicated a throttle body issue. The TB is an edelbrock unit. It's getting cleaned (even though it looked clean to me) and inspected, but it may take a new TB to fix it permanently.

Bad alternator caused Cam sensors to go crazy on mine after I installed the KB and had it tuned. New alternator later and all went good.

Yeah what the hell is up with the alternators on these cars? It's not like they haven't been making them for 70+ years or anything.
