Need some advise in tuning my mustang 68 302 4brl carb and flowmasters
I believe my timing is real off as the engine will die while turning the wheel without accelerating. I have to accelerate hard then make my turn to avoid killing the engine in the middle of the street. Can someone give some advise or is willing to help for some beer or a shop that wont charge me an arm and a leg? Maybe even point me to a shop or person that can help me diagnose the problem.I am no mechanic but I do everything i can on this car.

Turn up the idle. Where are you located?

What carb? Sounds like the floats are too high.

Shoot Fitzwell on here a PM. He got the carb nicely squared away for me on my '66. That said, I can tell you that his first advice will be to ditch the Edelbrock and go with a Holley. That's what I did and the difference is astounding. It's like a totally different (better) car.

That's not to say that the Edelbrock is a terrible carb (in my opinion), but it was surely simpler to tune the Holley and I can't argue with the results.

Another vote for Holley. That's what I used on my FMS crate 306 in the '66.

                      Raise the idle speed.

Lower the float level in the carb.

68 mustang only, check the neutral safety switch cutout wire for rubbing thur the insulation if it is a manual trany. It is near the firewall / steering column. It would go down to the safety switch but is just a loop on the manual cars. Rubbed thru one on mine and it was a PITA to find why the car would quit running.

                      Vacuum leak ??

If you are still using the old vacuum advance distributor, be advised that as they
wear out. The points will close up as vacuum advance kicks in due to worn bushings.
Do not waste money on a rebuilt one as the problem usually not fixed....

"Did you need to buy a warranty with that new part?"

Swap to electronic points if you haven't already.
