How can the position of the steering wheel affect the ignition?

Example: If the steering wheel is down all the way, the truck has no problems and runs fine. If the steering wheel is up, the truck dies and it seems to cut off the ignition.

    This is an 82 F150.

Also, the truck starts fine but the ignition has to be turned back a certain way to keep it running.

The ignition has been replaced and there are no bare wires in the column. Has anyone ever heard of moving the steering column down to fix an issue like this?

Your ignition switch is separating. You can usually bend the tabs over to save it. This caused my Fox to stall during hard lefts.

sounds like the (wishbone) in your column is broke. it is a metal piece that will push the ignition rod to the switch and allows the column to tilt. is your column loose?
