Tuning a 4.8LS motor with HPTuners

I'm helping work on a buddies project with an 4.8LS swap. The motor is a '99 4.8 with an ls1 intake and the wiring from an '03 silverado and a Saginaw 3 speed. It's a DBW setup and the tune is stock '03 automatic truck with VATS and rear O2's deleted. It starts/runs/drives fine, but of course it has the awful throttle response with the DBW and I'm sure a lot if the tune is far from optimum with the intake and exhaust setup. Wondering if it would be wise to find a .bin file from something with a manual transmission or just work with what we have? The main issue with tuning is that this is not a road car and logging data is not a simple as taking it for a 20-30 minute spin down the street. We're not looking to make huge power gains, just make it drive crisp and last forever. Made it this far using HPTuners and internet sources, now we're wondering if it is worth it to play with the tune further ourselves or call in an expert.

i would dump the DBW and go to a cable set up...

and why cant you drive it for 20-30 minutes? if nothing else i'd put that ho on jack stands and make some pulls in the drive way

It's an Opel GT with BMW suspension/steering/brakes.

DBW was done just because he used what he had or could get to work with everything else off of CL or ebay. It's pretty wild to even screw around with on the street. It looks like a 1/2 scale car and it has side pipes, cage, huge fender flares, no lights, ect.

i wouldnt ditch the dbw, it's control is actually far better then the dbc stuff once properly calibrated..

I don't know why everyone hates dbw. I don't think I could tell the difference in my car.
