  • Foxbody starting problems

Still having a problem with my foxbody starting...I can get the car fired up and adjust the timing and it will run great. I turn off the car and try to restart it and it just cranks... To get the car restarted I have to advance the timing (turn the distributor clockwise) and it'll start kinda run like crap until I turn the distributor back counter clockwise (retard). My question is what could be causing this? I've eliminated basically everything...it used to crank and start fine day in and day out for years up until now..new distributor etc. When you turn the key on does the computer automatically retard the timing or adjust timing while is cranking/starting? Is it possible that the computer isn't doing that anymore? 90 Lx 5.0 fuel injected..

Shake the wiring harness going to the distributor instead of turning the distributor to see if that changes anything.

What's shaking it going to do?

when it wont start, is it spinning over fast or slow?

Then check? There doesn't need to be a CE light for codes to be thrown.

Checking codes is perhaps the most important step in diagnosing problems with your 5.0. It is free, easy, and effective. Materials Needed -a paperclip or a piece of wire approximately 3-10 inches -pen and paper *To get accurate results it is important that the car is fully warmed up Step One -Find the self-test connectors.

Did you try pulling the spout to see if that changes anything, check the timing with a timing light on the restart.
