  • 2003 Cobra clutch recommendations?

Pops has an '03 Cobra vert. Bone stock and plans to forever leave it that way. Needs a clutch and flywheel. What are the kids using these days?

I put a spec flywheel and McLeod twin disk in for a friend. It had a great feel, little effort, and easy driveability.

I dont know much about these, but are the factory clutches that bad at stock power levels?

If its an old man with no intention to make more power I would point him toward something near stock assuming there are no known issues with them.

My stock clutch lasted 40k with 550hp. When I got tired of it (other folks couldn't drive it lol) I put a Spec 2 in mine.

Its not the cable that determines the pedal stiffness?

                  2003 Cobra clutch recommendations?

Last clutch I had was a McLeod twin disk and it was awesome. Of course I was in the 780hp range lol. Before that was a spec stage 3+ and it was decent. Stiff pedal though. Worst one I had installed was center force. It was garbage even at 500 rw she wouldn't hold.

you'll hear people talk about pressure plates in "weight". at least in the diesel world you do.

they're speaking of the clamping force, and I never really took the time to think about it, but I assume they're speaking in PSI.

so a "4500lb" pressure plate has 4500psi of clamping force, etc.

this "weight" correlates to the spring tension in the diaphragm spring or in other style pressure plates, the individual coil springs.

                        and now you know

So somebody put too beefy of a pressure plate in my 94. Cause the pedal is a stiff ass mofo. Guess I'll be looking into a different pressure plate when its time to change the clutch.

They may have put a shitty aftermarket cable in, if so it could be binding up causing the pedal to be really stiff

Those aftermarket cables don't have a teflon lining in them like the factory cables do
