  • R12 to R134

Any of y'all got the tools and such to evacuate this system and then convert/charge with 134? I have the little 134 conversion fittings. I'm free tomorrow morning. Thanks.

It really hurts my feelings that you thought I was talking about VW's.

Idk. Not anywhere local. As far as I could tell. Amazon and eBay sell it.

If you want it done so itll last you need to flush all the metal components individually, blow out the rubber lines with air, remove the compressor to cycle in new oil, replace the o-tube, replace the cycling switch, and replace the condenser with a parallel flow instead of the stock tube style.
There's more to it then just switching the fittings. R12 oil is not compatible with r134a.

I converted my Grand National last summer because I couldnt locate any more freeze 12. It sucks. R134a runs at higher pressure (way higher than standard r12), r134a leaks much easier because of the smaller molecules, and it doesnt cool as well. I replaced everything except the compressor, evacuated the system twice, charged it properly...and it leaked out within 2 days. 3 weeks later I found 9 cans of Dupont R12 on craigslist for 75 bucks. Im switching back to R12.

If it leaked out in 2 days you've got a leak somewhere. Most of the time its the shrader valves. Replacing all of the o-rings in the system doesnt take too long.
