  • Long shot, but does anyone know how to convert log files? I have this application called dashCommand on my tablet that I use to monitor all my shit and to data log, but the file format is ScanXL. I can import them into ScanXL and export them as CSV, but I dont have a way to import them into a Diablo tuner or whatever format it uses. Anyone ever tackled that mess before because I would rather keep my dashCommand plugged up than my Trinity when i want to data log.

      • Wheels came in. Still have not been able to tune it yet. Running into some problems with a very gassy smell ( it smells up my whole place, have to leave the garage door open a little ). I thought maybe it was from running to rich and some fuel got in the oil. I changed it out yesterday and I didnt see any separation of fuel/oil. I am going to use Blackstone labs and see what they find just in case. I am using a catch can a breather on it but I dont think thats where the smell is coming from. It smells like gas, but I dont see any leaks. Any ideas or things I might look for would be welcome.

Since I wont be able to tune it for another couple of weeks, I think I am going to drop it off for paint. Wheels are 20x10 in the back and 20x8.5 in the front. Putting some 315 NT05's on the back and prob keep my Michelins on the front. As a side note, those Michelin are the quietest tires I've ever owned.

        • Placing the new wheel in front of the old wheel makes it look like you have spinners.

          • Dropped it off for that paint and body today. Put the 315 NT05's on it, they BARELY fit, i'm already rubbing it on bumps and shit, but they fit if all roads on the planet were flat.

Going to have my body guy make some adjustments. Thinking about frenching in the rear emblems.

Did they replace any fuel lines? If they replaced them with steel braided rubber hose then you have your answer. Also, if they didn't hook your gas tank vent up to a vacuum source you will smell it. The old stangs had a charcoal canister that filtered the vapors before going to the engine, not sure if they still do that.

              • We replaced the entire fuel systems sans the tank. All new Startlite -8n lines that are heat wrapped, which connect to -6an adapters because the whipple rails are -6an, after the rails is the regulator and then it returns back to the tank. Regarding the EVAP system, I think you're right, I started sniffing around the car after letting it sit for some hours and it smelled strongest at the back near the filler which I believe is where my charcoal canister is. The front might smell like fuel when its running because its not filtering the vapors before it gets to the engine, but I might be talking out my ass. I am not sure if the tank/fuel is hooked up to a vacuum source. I hope its something simple and nothing catastrophic.

I'm having my paint and body guy check when he pulls off the fender linings if the canister is nice and snug, might not be a bad time to replace it anyway since i have 100k miles. Fuck I cant wait to see it after its painted.

I wonder if my diablo logs would have anything of interest in regards to gas smell.

                • If you used steel braided rubber lines for the fuel lines the ethanol in pump gas will eventually dry them out and cause them to leak. Long before they leak though, they will start to let the vapor leak out and you will smell it in your garage. The only way around this is to use Teflon lined lines which are a little more expensive. You can buy premade Teflon lines with the hose ends already crimped on them so it isn't too big of a deal to change them out. The only downsides to the Teflon are that they are less flexible and the cost. If you have any of those rubber lines that make hard corners you will need to plan for a softer turn when you replace it with Teflon.

That worries me. The startlite I thought were rated for running with e85, and according to their documentation, they have no recorded failure from it. I would assume that means they would be good for 93 octane. I am going to email Fore this morning just to make sure. The teflon lines were the same cost as the startline ones from Fore, I picked the startlite ones as they are easier to work and e85 ready.

                    • This is what I got back from Justin over at ForeInnovations. I wonder if that is where my smell is coming from, it seems really strong for it to be that, maybe its because the garage is so enclosed that it has no where to go. I've never had a car with custom fuel lines so I'm not really sure what to expect.

No problem at all Cruz! To answer your question, Startlite is rated for E85. However, like any rubber core fuel line, it will be permeated by fuel. So, indeed, you can expect a fuel smell from Startlite lines. (which increases with higher ethanol content)

PTFE (teflon) fuel lines are the only type of fuel line that is truly resistant to fuel permeation, but that line is only available with a stainless braid, which means it is more difficult to install and increases NVH...and of course, isn't black...which is a problem for some people. (FYI, even FKM/Viton lined rubber fuel line is still susceptible to smell, because resistance to permeation is only graded on straight samples)

                      Take care,
                      Justin

                      • I had a customer with the fuel line issue. Blown 1995 Cobra. He lived in a apartment complex. his garage was under another apartment. there was a window in the garage. He had to leave the window open, with a box fan in it, and the garage door cracked to exhaust the fumes. The fumes were so bad the tenant above the garage had complained about gas fumes to the property manager several times. Even with the box fan in the window, and the G~door cracked, the person still had to move out because the fumes were so bad, it was making them sick. You got to use the PTFE. It lasts for ever in comparison, and the fuel doesn't break the rubber down, because it never see's the fuel.

                          • If you convert your fuel system to PTFE, be sure you buy all your hose and fittings from ONE manufacturer. The parts may be for the same size hose and look like they'll go together, but they all use proprietary OD/ID and the fittings will leak if you try to mix and match that shit.

                            • I do not understand how the fuel lines could cause this much smell but its basically what jetfast is talking about. Does e85 smell better, lol?

I really dont want to redo my fuel lines, we have lines from the tank all the way to the rails and back again, probably cost another $800 easy.

                              • When I ran e85, I put a fragrance in the tank to help with the smell.

But if yours is that strong, you may want to look it over and see if you have any leaks or seeping.
