Planning on repainting my mustang in the next few months. What's the best way, technique, materials etc to remove the old shitty paint and get it down to bare metal, or close to it so it can be prepped for bodywork, primer and repaint?

Most of those strippers are meant to be brushed on. Given time to lift the paint and scraped off. Multiple applications might be necessary. I've heard that if you cover it with plastic it will work better.
Personally, I like this method of stripping a car the best. Takes a little longer but saves a lot of money.--carlos

I'm not 100% sure that I would try it on the bumpers, but I've never had a problem with it on the rest of the car. But, like stated above, you need to be careful with it and take the proper precautions.
On a side note, the best adhered paint on the bumpers is the factory paint, I wouldn't attempt to remove it. I would just D/A them as far down as possible with out exposing the raw plastic.--carlos

You never want to use ANY type of chemical paint remover if you don't have to. Done right, sanding is the way to go. IF you're dead set on using a chemical stripper, I suggest Stripper #10 and some aluminum tape to mask what you don't need stripped. Use EXTREME CAUTION when using chemical strippers, they will cause blindness and will eat through your skin and if enough gets into your system it will fuck you up...good luck...Originally posted by SilverbackLook all you want, she can't find anyone else who treats her as bad as I do, and I keep her self esteem so low, she wouldn't think twice about going anywhere else.

Be careful with the aircraft shit. It will eat through anything non metal. Including but not limited to your skin.

The "right" way is media blast. There really is no easy way. And my 2 cents is that you really better like the car.sigpic18 F150 Supercrew - daily
