On a scale of 1-10, how difficult/involved is a gear swap in a 8.8?
Vehicle in question is a 94 F-150 2wd 5spd 4.9l. Going from 3.73 to 3.08.

The 3.73s or the 3.08s? The 3.08s are factory replacements from the parts house. The 3.73s I don't know about. I just know the 2500 RPM @70mph is killing me.

is the replacements are ford gears, transfer the pinion shim on you're existing gears to the new one. bolt them in and use a new crush sleeve and nut. should be perfect when you get the pinion nut just the right tightness to make the pinion slightly hard to turn, about 20"lbs to turn the pinion . https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8APYO2sZyJU
Don't worry about what you can't change.
Do the best you can with what you have.
Be honest, even if it hurts.
