  • Electric fan help

This may be stupid and simple but I'm an idiot when it comes to wiring. I am installing an electric fan on my 89 Mustang but want to wire a switch inside the cab. I don't want to mess with buying a temp control box. Where would I splice in the power wires in the engine compartment? Also my battery is mounted in the rear of the car. Again, an idiot when it comes to wiring. Thanks for the help.

Depending on the size of the electric fan you're probably going to have to wire in a relay due to the high amp draw of the fan. I would run a wire to positive stud from the alternator or starter. Crimp a ring terminal on the end and add it to which ever stud you choose.

I wired mine like that, but I did put a switch inside the cab that can kill the power going to the relay if I DO NOT want the fan to run at all. With the switch in the "On" position, the fan cycles through the thermostat.
