manual steering is only a bitch under 5mph imho. Smaller width tires help.

im keeping my manual steering on my bagged truck for sake of fender clearance when rolling low and slow, and also having some "feel" to the steering for rub. also running manual brakes and a powerglide so fuck me, lol.

Manual steering and manual brakes here, decently wide front tires (245's) and no complaints.

Dang these suckers are expensive, double the price of a power steering rack, u would figure with less parts it would be cheaper

Just go to NAPA and ask for a manual rack from a 78 Fairmont.

But I still say keep the power.

I put a 429 SCJ into a 91 model Fox for a friend. Part of making it fit under the hood was a K member and manual rack. Even with fairly wide front tires and the weight of an iron head BBF it still steered just fine. Even under 5mph.

Oddly enough, the carb and air cleaner weren't the hardest things to fit under the hood, the tall valve covers were what hit.

You will need longer tie rods as well. Fairmonts where a inch shorter back then.

I did the whole flaming river kit on my zephyr. i havnt driven it yet, but feel nice compared to a looped power rack.
