  • Tire Size on foxbody

Im looking for a set of tires for the mustang and what you think about these sizes and if it would look good? I have 17x8 wheels on a 88 Mustang

    Front NITTO NT555 TIRE - 245/45/17

    Back Nitto NT05 - 255/40/17

Would it look funny the front tire is a tad bigger?

    Another Question is a Nitto NT05 - 275/40/17 to much tire for a 17x8's?

    Thanks for any feedback

I've got 245's on the front of my fox and 275's on the back. My wheels are 17x8 94 -95 cobras.

I'm running Nitto 275 40 17 drag radials on a 17 x 8 wheel, it looks fine, and makes a good contact patch.

Why are you not running all 4 the same size?

On the old 2012, Ryan had the stock pirelli's on the front wheels and 255 NT05's on the rear, I can't remember the aspect. They were just a tad skinnier and look silly. At least it had suspension work so the rear didn't sag. I'll see if I can find a pic for you.

275's will stick out a bit. IME, nittos run a bit smaller than the size on the tire. I had a set of 255's on an old mark viii with 16x7's. Ridiculous.

IMO, smaller sidewall height in back is going to look terrible. You're better off getting all 4 the same size if you don't want to go to 275 in the rear.

I used to run 255/40/17 in the front on 17x8 wheel, and it fit fine. But that was with 315's in the rear.

Something to remember, Nitto's run narrow.

I am running those sizes my my 90 in GoodYears.

Now, not what you were asking but a 275/40-17 DR on a 9" wheel fits perfect.

I had 315's on my fox hatch for a bit, but it required losing the quads, rolling and stretching the fender lips and a little hammer action on the inners. It worked for traction, but wasn't very asthetic IMO. I would probably try a 275 squared or 255/275 now.

I ran the 275 on a 17/8 and it was noticeable in the sidewall. I never had a problem though.

Forgot to mention the car has been lowered 1 1/4 bbk springs. I thought about going 255's all the way around but i figure it would rub on the fender. Ive already reversed my quads, but thinking of replacing the rear control arms and just delete the quads all together.

Be the best idea just go 255 all the way.
