  • Ford techs, water in the front diff

I work for the Border Patrol and we have like 12 newer model F-150's. Out of the 12, like 9 or 10 have had water contamination in the front diff. The dealer says they have to have been submerged and no warranty. That would be fine, but what is considered submerged? To me it means burying it over the diff to where it stays under water for several hours or days, or maybe if you were driving like through creek beds or streams all day. I will admit our guys having to cross creeks and stream beds, but it's just in and out, not sustained in the water. I have checked the vent hoses, they come out up by the master cylinder and I have not found any torn, broken, disconnected or anything. Are the seals on the stub shafts that weak? That's the only place I can think of that water is getting in. If any of you mechanics on here have suggestions on how to stop the water, I am all ears, I really don't want to have to pull the front cover every service and flush the diff if I don't have to.

    Submerged means submerged...

Being under water for three hours means being submerged for three hours
