  • Front cover seal

Has anyone here successfully replaced the crank seal in a front cover while installed on the motor? The seal on my 95 GT is leaking like a government spy and I'd prefer not to have to remove the cover. I've done the seal replacement on a work bench but have always been concerned about busting the cast aluminum. Any tips or tricks?

It's not that big of a deal. Just change it.

Pull the cover. Not because you have to but it is just easier to work on the bench. Replace more possibly leaking gaskets while you are in their.

Cause sn95's and cam swaps go hand in hand.

Getting the seal to start is the pain, if you have a piece of pipe the correct diameter to square up on it then it's a cake walk. I generally tap them in with a hammer, it a sometimes a back and forth game trying to get it started without one side popping back out.

I've done them before, but on a work bench with a block behind it. Just never while on the car.
