  • Debating on putting powerglide in my foxbody

I have a powerglide im debating on putting in my turbo charged 86 mustang. Car is currently a 5 speed with 3.55 gears. Putting the glide in to be faster at the track and because the T5 won't hold the power. I'm also debating on just buying a stronger 5 speed or a T56. Seems like all the quick turbo cars are auto though. Car is just a toy but anywhere I drive is all highway. I'm scared I'm gonna hate driving it on the street with the Glide but I wonder if it won't be that bad. Anybody on here have a C4 or glide in their car and have any input? I'm also considering putting a 3.27 gear in the car if it goes auto.

Car makes around 400 at the wheels right now on 8 pounds of boost. Brooks is fixing to put a tune up in the car though and after that it will be set to Atleast 14 pounds of boost. Hopefully it makes 500 at that point.

But do yall think if I drive the shit out of it with a stick it would still be as fast as the auto at the track? All my nitrous foxbodys had 5 speeds and ran good E.T's at the track. This turbo stuff is new to me though.

Drive around in 4th gear for a while at freeway speeds. Losing OD is a big deal to some people. With 3.27 gears you'll be cruising at 3100 rpm at 70mph and 26" tires. With 3.55s it's 3400.

You'll definitely be faster and more consistent and probably won't break as many parts with a glide but if you plan on taking any cross country trips in the car you won't like it.

I had 3.89 gears with 28" tires and a glide with a small converter/brake. My car went from something with a ton of power I could drive anywhere to a slow street legal race car when I did the switch. I didn't have any more transmission problems though!

If it's mainly a street driven car that ocassionally gets taken to the track, I'd see how much of that 500hp the T5 will hold!

Lol. Honestly my old T5's held up pretty well with the nitrous. It took two years of launching on bottle with 1.5 60 fts before it ever broke.

I'm running a full manual C4 with 3.73s. The car is just a toy, but it does get old doing 3200+ RPM at low highway speeds. Unless you are going to race a bunch, I'd do with a heavy duty manual or a built auto with overdrive.

Hell, a stock 97ish v6 auto will hold 500 with a good converter.

i have a fresh rebuilt glide from a 67 impala with a 327 that i plan to put behind my 327 (5.3). mine is just a toy too, and until i get it shook down i dont plan to do much on the highways. i can get to kellers via side streets and i think that and forest lane will be my main cruising grounds.

i'm excited about the glide w/ boost

I think for now I'm gonna keep the car a 5 speed. Definatly gonna explore some aod/4r75 options as well. I'm just gonna put the glide in my nova.

I think that's a good call, even if just for the fun factor. 3 pedals for life!
