  • Turbo guys!!! What fuel to run???

    I've recieved all kinds of suggestions from people over what type of fuel I should run in my turbo car. But, none of them run turbos. I'm running a 9.5:1 ratio with boss 302 block. 2v trick flow 185cc heads with port job. 76mm precision turbo, plan on putting in 15psi max, depending on how well my engine flows. It has stage 3r meme turbo cams. I have 105#injectors. I was gonna run c16 because on vp website it shows to be good for boosted applications. Do y'all think I can run c14 or c12 safely???

    Why not E85? With your setup if it has a decent intercooler you'd probably be fine with 110, maybe even pump gas if you are careful.

          First of all, don't limit yourself to a boost number. Limit yourself to a power number that the short block will be able to handle. If your built short block can take 1,000rwhp, then turn that wick up until you finally reach either 1,000rwhp or exceed the 'safe' airflow and/or fuel flow of the engine.

          Your fuel choice will play a significant role in power levels: if this is going to be a daily driver, I would run E85 if it's local. Otherwise it would be 93 octane. VP 116 is expensive stuff and would be bank-breaking in a daily driver for most folks.

                E85 isn't very available around here. That is what the fuel system was set up for. It is gonna be a street strip car but it probably wont see the street much because of the fuel price. I called the tech line at vp and he recommended vp109. The block is built to hold 1,000 rwhp and that is where im trying to get but i think i will have to upgrade my intercooler and maybe my turbo again to reach it.

                  VP109? I'd buy E85 by either filling up a drum of it at a gas station that does have it or getting a tank with a pump for the back of a truck. I can't imagine that it would be easier to get some VP. Did you Google locations around you? It should be much cheaper and more available than VP stations. Where do you live?

                  Locate a gas station that sells E85 Ethanol or Biodiesel for your flex fuel vehicle. News & events is the alternative fuel industry.

                    9.5 compression, you should get close to 800rwhp on 93 octane pump gas. Then if you want more, start mixing in the good stuff or switch over for race days. My buddy Shelby made 793 with his Cobra on 93 and a single 76mm turbo.

                      I live in Odessa, TX. I checked into E85 locations because i was gonna do like you said, get a drum and haul it home but decided it would be easier just to use race fuel. The money isnt a big issue. Im just worried something will go south without a quality fuel. I looked at the VP site and they had no vp109 listed. It was just vp110.

                      I figured 800 rwhp was a more realistic goal. Its good to know it might put out those numbers. I still have a little ways to go before i stick it on the dyno for tuning.

                      I appreciate everyones input on the subject. Its been helpful.
