  • Turbo fox questions.

Bought a turbo 86 mustang last night. It's a gt40p, blow through carb inter cooled set up. 5 speed. It's running a little rich but I'm not sure where about I should have the timing set at on a turbo set up. Also what heat range of plugs to run. It's making 7 psi right now. What psi can I safely run? I bought a wideband for it and should have it on this weekend to know the exact air/fuel.

anything past 10-12lbs you could loose a headgasket with stock heads.

2 heat ranges colder on the plugs.

Get the wide band on and add 1deg at a time to see what the motor likes.
    One day at a time.

Ok. I Pulled a plug last night and it's got 2 heat ranges colder plugs. Forgot my timing light so I didn't get to see where the timing is at. Has a few small exhaust leaks too. It runs pretty good though. Just feels a little lazy on motor but pulls hard once the boost kicks in

what size turbo? compressor wheel size and turbine a/r?

cam and timing play a big role.

exhaust leaks ideally should not be anywhere in the system.

10 BTDC is where all of my turbo SBF cars were.

Lean it out, it spools quick but that can be bad.. Fatten it up, it lags but likes the top end but can also be bad.

It's a master power 70. Don't get me lying on those other specs. Car has a b cam. I got the wideband installed but didn't have time to go make some pulls on the street to see where it's at.

              mpt70 is proly a t04 p trim size.

the housing a/r will explain a lot if there is still lag after the wideband test.

b cams are hit or miss with turbos. the wrong size turbine will cause it to run like a turd with a b303. stock cobra cams are almost a b cam without the duration (1.7 rockers too) and those work great from my experience. granted for a mild sub 500 rwhp car they do.

That's the same turbo I had on mine Mark. I can't offer much since mine was EFI.

Mpt70 were generally .68 and. 96 a/r, some had a .81 but they were rare. I, like doug had a similar setup, but mine was efi also.

Yeah it's a mpt70 turbo. Started to put new header gaskets on it yesterday but didn't get time to finish. The old ones were trash though so it should sound better without all the exhaust ticking under the hood.

I would have used permatex ultra copper rtv instead of gaskets.

yes.. even with trued flanges the gaskets will eventually pop.

very trued flanges and hi temp copper rtv is best.
