  • Bad A/C compressor?

My 2003 Dodge Ram's A/C quit working yesterday. I just went out and took a quick look at it. The condenser fan is running, the clutch engages, but no cold air. I have a cheap set of gauges and the low side was reading high ~85 psi and the high side was reading low ~75 psi. I know those are not right and from what I read it said that a faulty compressor is the likely culprit.

Just really wanting to know if I am on the right path before I go buy new parts. If it matters it's all the original equipment on the truck.

Sounds like a bad compressor. Change it, the receiver dryer, and the orifice tube which is located inside one of the lines. If the o-tube is clogged up then flush the lines. Im not sure if you've worked on ac systems before but make sure you pull a vacuum on it after you're done. If you want I can do the job for you.

I haven't done much other than change components myself and had a shop pull vacuum on it and recharge it. I have a buddy with a vacuum pump, but I really appreciate the offer. Plus I am on the other side of the world from you, east of Dallas.
